Sony's PlayStation 3 has been launched in the US, and it hasn't gone nicely.

In Lexington four people were hit by BB pellets while waiting in line( www.wkyt.com ).

At a Wal-Mart in West Bend Wisconsin, a scuffle broke out among the approximately 60 people waiting in line for the store's allocation of 10 PlayStation 3 units. When the crowd found out the systems would be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, pushing and shoving broke out, sending one system hopeful face-first into a telephone pole. Police say an ambulance had to be called to the scene. ( www.kotaku.com )

In Columbus, Georgia a dentist hired 60 temps to stand in line for 8 hour shifts, in order to get PS3s for his 15 grandchildren. Newlin rotated the line-goers every eight hours, and if sour grapes complaints to store managers and the temps' employment agencies hadn't caused him abandon the plan yesterday afternoon, our rough estimate is that the whole deal would have set him back about $23,400 when all was said and done -- or about the cost of two PS3s on eBay. Wall Mart issued a press release stating that Senator John Edwards had tried to cut in line, and that everyone was threated equal, so he didn't get any advantages.

At least one analyst has publicly stated that Sony is nowhere near its earlier stated goal of 400,000 PS3 units for the U.S. launch, raising the possibility that it may be very difficult to locate an available console when it arrives on Friday.

Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian said those who did not preorder the PS3 might not be able to locate an available system. "We expect Sony to deliver 150-200k units to stores in the United States for the launch," he wrote in a note to clients. ( www.betanews.com )
