News: GoDaddy a squatter?

I noticed something interesting on an aquaintance's domain names registered at GoDaddy. Recently a couple of domains he intended on expiring got extended another year and after a few days got pushed to GoDaddy's parked pages instead of going into the REDEMTIONPERIOD and a following PENDINGDELETE as one would expect ( www.kfwebs.net ).
As you might, or might not know, the GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons ( www.bobparsons.com ) has been having a very high profile with regards to Add/Drop schemes ( www.kfwebs.net ) recently.
Interestingly enough he has always had great acceptance for ordinary domain squatting, or keeping a domain for the sake of showing ads, or selling it to a high bidder, as long as it is paid for.
But one would think that it is somewhat conflicting to automaticly grab domain names that others have registered through them. Adding to this, the registration data of the original owner is preserved, it is not transfered over to GoDaddy in any case.
