702 684 new .eu Internet domain names were registered in first four hours after .eu opened to the public. EU has now reached its first million domain names.

The EU domain name reached its third phase, Land Rush, today, the 7th of April. It is now open for public registration after two runs of Sunrise phases where registrations were only open to holders of registered trademarks.

As of 18:22 (CEST) the total number of EU domain names was 956,402. 15 minutes later, at 18:37 the number had increased by 13,336 domain names, totaling 969,728 domain names. It passed a million domain names by 19:52. The total number of registered domains then showed: 1,003,760. The graph below shows the development by 15 minute intervals.

From the look of it registrations are now leveling.

The EU domain name is controlled by the non-profit organization EURid ( www.eurid.eu ). You can follow the status on their website status.eurid.eu
