News: Active24: Windows hosting problems

Active24 is the company I hosted my first domain with, and I was overcharged grossly. For one thing I didn't notice that the Value Added Tax was not part of the prices on the website, so that added 24 per-cent to the bill.
In addition to that they reported a NORID ( www.norid.no ) fee I have yet to understand as NORID has nothing to do with a dot net address. In total the price was about USD 100 annually and that did not include managed DNS.
Well, now they are down. The Microsoft Windows hosting is unavailable, which affect somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 customers of its total 250,000. And yes, their own website www.active24.no is also down.
The problem started around 10:00 (am) Norwegian time (CET) and affect both email and websites. The number of affected users is therefore much larger as most of the customers had multiple email-addresses for several people.
One attempt for reasoning is “a problem with a switch on the old datacenter at Skullerud, we have moved most over to Digipex's facility in Oslo, but there are some left.”
He says he is sorry for the incident and make sure they are robust with redundancy everywhere. What wasn't possible to happened has just happened, probably due to a routing table or something software-related.
In the meantime, read about our GNU/Linux hosting services at www.kfwebs.net
