Internet Storm Center
The ISC was created in 2001 following the successful detection, analysis, and widespread warning of the Li0n worm. Today, the ISC provides a free analysis and warning service to thousands of Internet users and organizations, and is actively working with Internet Service Providers to fight back against the most malicious attackers.

Know your Enemy: Tracking Botnets
These days, home PCs are a desirable target for attackers. Most of these systems run Microsoft Windows and often are not properly patched or secured behind a firewall, leaving them vulnerable to attack. In addition to these direct attacks, indirect attacks against programs the victim uses are steadily increasing. Examples of these indirect attacks include malicious HTML-files that exploit vulnerabilities in Microsoft's Internet Explorer or attacks using malware in Peer-to-Peer networks. Especially machines with broadband connection that are always on are a valuable target for attackers. As broadband connections increase, so to do the number of potential victims of attacks. Crackers benefit from this situation and use it for their own advantage. With automated techniques they scan specific network ranges of the Internet searching for vulnerable systems with known weaknesses. Attackers often target Class B networks (/16 in CIDR notation) or smaller net-ranges. Once these attackers have compromised a machine, they install a so called IRC bot - also called zombie or drone - on it. Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time communication over the Internet. It is mainly designed for group (one-to-many) communication in discussion forums called channels, but also allows one-to-one communication.

Linux Encryption Howto
The Crypto API is an approach to unify the interface between kernel modules using crypto routines (such as the loop_gen driver or CIPE (eventually?)) and kernel modules providing crypto routines (such as cipher or hash modules). It shows up as the ``Crypto Options'' menu in make menuconfig. At the time of this writing (Sep 2000), only the crypto loop device driver (CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP_GEN) uses this facility and not all ciphers contained in the international kernel have been integrated into the Crypto Library. It is obviously desirable that all kernel modules using strong encryption use the Crypto API (where applicable).

MD5 Crack
MD5CRK is a new distributed computing project. Our goal is to demonstrate that the MD5 message digest algorithm is no longer appropriate for many cryptographic applications such as checksums and digital signatures.

Norman Sandbox Information Center
Test Norman's proactive antivirus module by submitting a suspicious file! The Norman SandBox information center (NSIC) is based on Norman's unique SandBox technology which makes it possible to catch viruses and other malicious software before virus signatures have been released. This powerful tool gives you the opportunity to check if there is any malware (i.e. viruses, internet worms, trojans, etc) in the file submitted to the NSIC system.

OpenSSL Apache self signed server certificates quickstart howto help with RSA DSA SSL TLS
OpenSSL Apache self signed server certificates quickstart howto help with RSA DSA SSL TLS I struggled for a while to get Apache 2 running with both RSA and DSA keys and self signed certificates. I've developed a little bash script that both documents the process and does it for you if you like. I wanted to share my results to hopefully save others the headache I had in gathering all this information and testing and tweaking until it all worked correctly. Below are three scripts. First, makersa.sh, to generate RSA keys and certificate requests. Next, makedsa.sh, to generate DSA keys and cretificate requests. And last a slightly modified generic script from Ralf Engelschall to sign the certificates which is called by each of the first two scripts. All you need to do to create a complete set of RSA key/cert is "./makersa.sh" and similarly for DSA, "./makedsa.sh". A copy of this article is archived at: http://john.masinter.net/pub/openssl.html Hope this helps at least one person out there. Happy and secure web serving to all!
